I have a birds' nest story - this came about 4th hand so I don't have
any solid details. Apparently someone saw a couple of nice interesting
birds' nests and decided to cut them down out of the tree they were in.
Unfortunately, there were still eggs in one of them. This person
apparently did not or could not return the nest to its site.
Now the nest may have been deserted and the eggs dead. However, I
think we need to get the message out that birds' nests should be left
alone, at least until late into August. Even if the young have fledged,
some young birds will return to the nest sporadically as a protected night
roost, etc. Also some adult birds will attempt a second nesting in the old
nest. So I think we need to leave nests alone until we are absolutely
certain that they are not being used.
Any other opinions?
