Interesting, I considered looking it up...the "rock pronuncation" was
given me by a self-proclaimed expert on the subject, which I guess
goes to show they're probably as confused as they are.

They probably check to see how the birding community pronounces it
when they argue the question, thus making the whole exercise circular! :)
