made a quick trip to the Alvord Desert on Sunday and Monday because my
daughter wanted to see some desert.

camped at Pike Creek on Sunday and hiked up the Creek for a mile+ on
Monday.

the birds on the outwash below the canyon and the adjoining
riparian area included:

Mourning Doves
Western Meadowlarks
Redwinged Blackbirds
Lark Sparrows (copulating)
Bullock's Oriole (one was partially albinistic)
Northern (red-shafted) Flicker
Rock Wrens
Violet-green Swallows

on the hike up the canyon:

Chukar (a large flock including fledged young)
Lazuli Buntings
Say's Phoebe
Lewis' Woodpeckers

the last seemed the most notable and -- at least to me -- suprising
species.
