There were at least a couple or so hanging out at Malheur NWR HQ
three weeks ago, for several days. This is typical. It's the
hanging out and breeding that's unusual. How far up Pike Creek
were they? When you said you hiked about a mile or so up, I could
pretty much imagine where you stopped, as the going gets very rugged
up that canyon, indeed more or less vertical (by my judgement, at
least) eventually.
