I'm an eagle watcher at Seward Park. Last year I saw them every morning
sometimes as many as three at a time. This year observing has been a lot
more infrequent. Last week, I saw one swoop down maybe 30 feet from in
front of me and hit the water. I didn't see him come up with anything but
you can imagine what a sight it was. A couple weeks ago
we saw Canadian geese with babies and mallard babies. A couple days later
there were no babies at all. I haven't seen a duckling at Seward now for
over two weeks. In addition to the eagle, I have seen several heron down
there--sometimes two or three in the space of my walk around. I know the
heron and eagle are fish eaters but did they get the baby goslings and
ducks, do you suppose? Last year there were at least three or more sets
of mallard ducklings but this year I saw only one. And this past spring
there was much pairing off of mallards yet only one set of babies which
now appear to be gone. Any aswers?
