We have had two adult pileated nesting in a snag in our ravine this spring
and I am trying to figure out if their offspring should be fledging soon.
They still seem to be flying back and forth from the nest, although
yesterday I saw them both out at once for the first time in a while - only
for a moment then one flew back. Of course we are anxious to see the
Pileated babies, but don't know what they will look like or if you will be
able to tell them apart from the adults by the time they are out. So, does
anyone know what they look like? Does anyone have an idea when they should
be fledging? Looked in Gene's book for King County, but no nesting times
are indicated. Thanks!
