Reading the disscusion on crows mobbing eagles, I was reminded of an
experience of mine on crow *hunters* -

(I don't know when this was, it was about a year ago) On the stairs leading
up to the Oceanography building on the U. of Wa. campus, I interrupted a
crow hunting a squirrel. I startled the crow just as he was about to catch
the squirrel. The crow landed for a moment to examine this thing who
interrupted his hunt and probably to regain his balance, then he was off
after the squirrel again. I don't think the crow caught him. This was a
full-grown squirrel, not a baby. Very interesting experience. I knew that
crows would sometimes mob squirrels, but hunting them? This crow looked
very intent on his victim, as if he was hunting the squirrel, not just
chasing him away. It was a lone crow, too.

How often does this occur?
