Yesterday in a post concerning the Jetty Island ferry I mentioned that
there is an osprey nest along the boat channel north of the 10th Street
Boat Launch. I was up there last evening and got a good look at the three
young osprey being fed (about 8:30pm). The birds look like they are about
one and a half weeks old. The nest is on the west end of the second row
of pilings north of the boat ramp and parking lot. There is also a nest
across the channel on pilings along the east side of Jetty Island and one
further north in the port area close to the Nord Door facility.

The prominent nest that is visible from the overlook at Legion Park still
does not have any young birds but they should be hatching soon. The male
is spending quite a bit of time on the nest with the female and they are
looking at the eggs often as if they can hear activity inside the eggs.

A reminder that we (Pilchuck Audubon) will have a large telescope and
several spotting scopes set up at Legion Park this Saturday (June 29,
7am-noon )morning for viewing the osprey. (Stop off on your way to
Spencer??)
