Just a few weeks ago I watched a crow "running" rather rapidly along the
edge of the roof of the building, just south of the South Campus Center on
the University of Washington campus. It appeared to be chasing something,
trying several times to grab whatever it was chasing with it's bill. After
chasing a good ten or so feet, the crow seized what I then saw to be a
large mouse or small rat, and quickly flung the rodent over the side of
the building. It then dropped down to its now dead prey and flew with it
in its bill, with what appeared to be some difficulty because the rodent
was a good five to six inches in length, to the top of the Fisheries where
its noisy young were waiting. Quite the violent end for the unlucky
rodent.
