Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday June 27. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.
A territorial male BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW was found June 22 near the top of
Stukel Mountain south of Klamath Falls. The bird is being seen and heard
just past the Aspen Pond junction. A green striped ribbon is on the right
side of the road near where it is being seen. Also on Stukel Mountain are
BLACK-THROATED SPARROWS and BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS.
A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW and six BRANT were at the north end of Agency Lake
north of Klamath Falls June 21. The male COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD continues to
visit a Klamath Falls feeder and another is still being seen at Sawyer Park
near Bend.
A male DICKCISSEL has set up a territory in Stuart Craghons back yard at
the Malheur Field Station near Malheur Refuge Headquarters. It has been
there for some time.
A very active and vocal CANADA WARBLER was in the residential neighborhood
on the north side of Mt. Tabor park in southeast Portland June 23 and 24.
It quieted down Monday evening and was gone the next day.
Two AMERICAN AVOCETS were at the mouth of Hubbard Creek, one mile south of
Port Orford June 23. There has been some shorebird movements along the
coast.
Three DUSKY FLYCATCHERS were seen June 22 on a clearcut near Browns Camp at
the summit of Highway 6 in the Coast Range. A bright male LAPLAND LONGSPUR
is now being seen at Baskett Slough Refuge west of Salem. It hangs out with
a small group of HORNED LARKS. Also at the Refuge has been a GREATER
YELLOWLEGS and WESTERN SANDPIPERS.
A male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK visited a feeder in Eugene June 23. The owner
of the feeder does not want visitors at this time.
GRAY-CROWNED ROSY FINCHES are now being seen at Crater Lake. They are most
often found in a cleared parking area just north of the Watchman.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER feeding young was found June 22 near Gerber
Reservoir east of Klamath Falls. Another was feeding young at Shelton
Wayside State Park in Wheeler County. Both sightings are somewhat out of
this species regular range.
On June 21 two BLACK SWIFTS were seen from Hat Point in the Wallowa
Mountains of northeastern Oregon.
Tuesday July 2 is Birder's Night at Portland Audubon. Meet in Audubon House
at 7:30 p.m. for the latest birding news.
Thats it for this week.
