Bicycle-birding in the Snoqualmie Valley, King County WA, just
east of Seattle near the foothills of the Cascade Mts.
Most unusual bird sighted: A WESTERN KINGBIRD along S.E. 24
Street R7E T24N NWQ. It was flycatching from a branch on a stump
pile in a pasture and not saying a word.
Most interesting bird sighted: WESTERN TANAGER along W.
Snoqualmie Rd N.E. just south of Novelty Hill Rd. We heard the
Western Tanager and decided we might as well stop and see if we
could find him. Sure enough there he was perusing the Salmonberry
and Elderberry bushes. Then high up in the maples and into the
mixed forest we heard another tanager but try as we might we
could not locate the second bird. Could it have been a female
singing? The first male seemed completely unconcerned that a
second male was nearby or perhaps they are not particularly
territorial?
