Addendum to Mr. Price's message re the pronunciation of Bewick's Wren:

This afternoon, I called Ms. Mary Bewick......a most charming lady who
was very gracious in giving me her time. A great----grandniece of
Thomas Bewick, she pronounces her family-name as does GM their car:
"Buick". The name derives from Old English for 'bee-farm', is
virtually unknown outside the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area, but is there
of illustrious history. Unhappily, she no longer is able to "bird",
but we enjoyed our conversation. I thank her for her kindness!
