I spent several hours Saturday and Sunday watching my feeders for the Cornell
FeederWatch. I was rewarded with a kestral kill seen at 5' away. My husband
happened to be at the kitchen sink window so he witnessed it also. The 5-6
pine siskins at my feeder startled and took flight, unfortunately directly
into the path of a diving kestral. A siskin was taken on the wing. This
kestral is starting to become a regular. I was able to log him 2 weeks ago
for my previous Feederwatch. That time the falcon soared into the yard and
landed smack in the middle of my backyard. He seemed confused, standing
quite proudly in the grass, looking around for several minutes. Enough time
for me to go running downstairs to have Ben take a look at it. I was
screaming "A Peregrin!! A Peregrin!!" But after taking a closer look it had
the size, coloring, and spots of a flicker. Could it be any other kind of
raptor? He hunts so quickly it is hard to focus binoculars on him.
