Thanks to Scott Richardson for updating us on the world status of Short-
tailed Albatross. Encouraging numbers!

There has been no further information received about the Feb. 23
sighting of a probable Short-tailed Albatrosss off Tofino, B.C. A full
description is being sought from the observer (Capt. Jon Anderson - who is
still at sea) for review by the local and BC records committees.

Those who may be interested in an *outside* chance of seeing this bird (or
others like it) should call Rod Palm of Tofino (604) 725-3958. Rod is
conducting a monthly survey of seabird distribution and numbers out of Tofino
on contract with the Canadian Wildlife Service. His next trip is scheduled
for March 10 or the first day thereafter that weather permits. His standard
survey route takes him about 34.5 nautical miles sw of Tofino...a 5- to
6-hour trip. He can take a few passengers, for a fee, in his open, 24-foot
Boston Whaler. For details, call Rod.

And if the albatross is not enough to attract you to Tofino, the male
Falcated Teal may be. It was still present to at least Sat. Feb 2, off the
end of Sharp Road, just south of Tofino.
