**URGENT--HAWK MOUNTAIN INTERN NEEDED**

PLEASE POST AND/OR ROUTE TO INTERESTED FACULTY AND STUDENTS

******************

Due to a last-minute resignation, HAWK MOUNTAIN SANCTUARY has one opening
for an ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION INTERN for the upcoming SPRING-SUMMER
session (31 March-31 July 1996).

Hawk Mountain, located in the eastern mountains of Pennsylvania, was
established in 1934 as the world's first sanctuary for birds of prey. An
international center for the study and conservation of raptors and
Appalachian ecology, the Sanctuary annually offers ten internships in
environmental education, ecological research, and monitoring. For 20 years,
Hawk Mountain internships have provided valuable training for
pre-professionals and beginning professionals in conservation.

Environmental Education Interns guide field trips and present on-site and
off-grounds programs to school children and the general public. Emphasis is
on program development and presentation of interrelated concepts. Interns
are trained in the care and use of captive live raptors for educational
programs. Each intern completes an independent project that may include the
development of new programs or teaching materials.

Internships are open to qualified undergraduate and graduate students,
graduates, and young people beginning careers in conservation. Applicants
must have at least two years of college coursework and exhibit a
willingness and ability to interact with the public. Interns must be eager
to gain and share knowledge and be able to respond professionally to
unanticipated events.

The Sanctuary provides free on-site housing and a $375 monthly stipend.
Interns may also receive course credit from their respective institutions,
as arranged for by the intern.

If you are interested in applying for the Environmental Education
Internship or know of a qualified individual, please contact Bill Hilton
Jr. (Director of Education) or Annette Edwards (Intern Coordinator) by
PHONE before FRIDAY, MARCH 8. (Phone number listed below.)

(NOTE: If you are interested in applying for one of the five Fall 1996 Hawk
Mountain internships, please request application forms by mail. Fall
session dates are 15 August-15 december 1996.)
