I presume ornithologists go by what the AOU has published. What about
birders? I assume the ABA will adopt these changes. Do we "wait"
until the ABA Checklist Committee adopts them? Is there any likelihood
they would *not* adopt these changes? My understanding is that the ABA
and the AOU only differ as to the contents of their checklists (due to
differences in what they consider valid records), but that they always
unite on the splitting and lumping...

The July 1995 Auk just came to me in the mail (the last 3 issues came
within a week, a repeat of last year's weird situation). In it is the 40th
supplement to the AOU Check-list. Those rumors that have been circulating
for quite a long time are now cast in concrete (at least until next time).
