There's a fairly complete duck section, and you might find who you're
looking for without having to go to REI and buy a guide.

If you don't have web access, maybe you could describe what you mean by
"pinched together head" and "looks like a Mallard" a little more. Then
I'm sure someone can help you out bigtime.
