Hello, this is Poretland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday March 7. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

The Roseburg BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continues to be seen. The better
directions are: Take the Garden Valley Road exit off I5 and drive west to
Steward Road. Turn south and drive about a mile. Just prior to the bridge
turn left and drive about a half mile and park just outside the south
entrance to the VA Medical Center at the west end of River Front Park. Take
the paved trail about 500 yards to two chin-up bars. Check the woods
between the path and the chain link fence to the north and east of the
chin-up bars.

The male COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD is still being seen at an Ashland feeder.
Another male COSTA'S was reported March 2 at Mt. Tabor Park in Portland. It
could not be relocated.

A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was seen in the Carty Unit of Ridgefield NWR March 2.
This entire area is still well under water.

A flock of 32 SANDHILL CRANES was observed flying northward over Tigard
March 4. On March 2 a flock of 1100 CRANES was seen on Sauvie Island.
Others were scattered elsewhere on the Island with many in the flooded
wildlife area. The wildlife area will continue to be closed for at least
another month. Three GLAUCOUS GULLS were at the Sauvie Island pellet plant
March 2. Two SAVANNAH SPARROWS were on the Island that day. On February 29
a LEWIS' WOODPECKER was observed along Oak Island Road at the large fallen
oak tree.

Over 100 EVENING GROSBEAKS are visiting a feeder in Banks, northwest of
Portland. They drove off the over 250 PINE SISKINS that were wintering
there.

Singing and displaying HORNED LARKS were reported west of Amity and at
Baskett Slough NWR over the week-end.

A male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE and two WESTERN SCRUB-JAYS were at Spray in
Wheeler County March 2.

Thats it for this week.
