been very active during the last decade in the preservation of the
Great Swamp. This ribbon idea isn't his, but he still thinks it is a

A resident who lives adjacent to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge
in New Jersey has proposed a good idea for Earth Week (APR 16-22, '96):

During the week before Earth Day (Apr 22), people across the country should
(1) wear a green ribbon, and (2) tie a green ribbon around a highly visible
tree to signify to our public officials the strong desire of the American
people to preserve, protect, and expand our public lands.

Please forward this message to interested individuals and groups.

(Also, please use environmentally safe ribbons and remove them promptly
after Earth Day.)
