As a young man gillnet fishing on the lower Fraser River with my grandfather,
I came to know Western Grebes well. They most certainly do feed at all times
of the day in fresh water at least. Perhaps there is a difference related to
the substrates in which they are feeding, and to the varous runs of prey fish
involved. The local fishermen referred to grebes as "helldivers". Quite apt.
