Well, I wonder if you are that far off...
The Great Horned Owl _Bubo virginianus_ is in the same genus as his European
counterpart the Eagle Owl _Bubo bubo_. I would not be surprised if they are
*very* close together in this genus.

Let's wait for a 1,000 years: The redpolls, wagtails and wheatears will then be
split between North America and Europe :-)
