Hi, Rebecca. I suspect your brant sighting was at least slightly "out of
character," but probably not unheard-of. At least it was still near
saltwater. One time when I assisted research on dusky and cackling Canada
geese in the Willamette Valley (Oregon) I was startled and pleased to find
a lone brant grazing in a field with some honkers. Brant have become my
favorite geese because of their lively "personalities."
