Hello Tweeters:
For those few of you not quite experienced in shorebird spotting on
the Harbor, here's one little tip as you plan to visit us during the peak
migration period: be sure to walk the strip between the Hoquiam sewage
lagoon and the harborside tidal flats before or after you trek out through
the mud of Bowerman Basin proper. While it doesn't quite present a Patagonia
Roadside Rest effect, its an area that often turns up unexpected species;
and the ducks on the lagoon, (often large )shorebirds on the beach, and
passerines on the shrubby strip are sure to build up your triplist figures.

Grays Harbor Audubon is sponsoring this year's Festival (guided
tours, to O. Shores and Westport as well as the Basin), and lectures and
exhibits at a downtown Hoquiam motel. GHAS wants to show the uninitiated
locals that the bird spectacle is thrilling, and that it's an economic boost
with long lasting benefits for all of us who live here. Let's have everyone
enjoy! The weekend of April 27/28 is the date. For more information pull up
our Homepage: dschwick at wln.com, or give me a call at 360-532-0909. Good
birding..
