I checked the main swan area (Upper Hampton Lake) on Columbia NWR this
morning. It is within the sanctuary area and closed to the public at this
time of year. Of the 79 swans that I counted, one or two (don't know if I
looked at the same bird twice, and later they had their heads tucked away)
were adult Trumpeters. I did not see the Whoopers. Hopefully somebody can
check Atkins Lake before the Apple Cup rainstorm hits. I did see nearly 100
Hooded Mergansers at the same location.
