Someone has been environmentally conscious in Portland in the last few
weeks because when I went to check out the Monk Parakeet colony near the
Portland Airport this morning, it wasn't there. The nesting structure
was sitting in a pile of wood next to my car. I think there was a bird
in a nearby tree,but seeing that the birds hadn't been treated kindly, I
wasn't sure how birders would be treated, so I left. Who knows what the
status of this colony will be now. RK
