Hi Tweets,

Regarding hummingbird and swallow arrivals, here's some dates I've worked
out for Vancouver BC. They're based on the many observations of Vancouver
birders contributed to the Vancouver Natural History Society, and over the
years compiled in part by Wayne Weber, Doug Kragh, Mike Force, and myself.

HUMMINGBIRDS

Species Arr. Dep.

Rufous Hummingbird 3/11 8/31
Calliope Humm. 5/01 n.a. (prob mid-May)
Costa's Humm. 5/13 5/30 (3 rcds)
Ruby-throated Humm. 4/01 4/01 (1 rcd)

SWALLOWS

Purple Martin n.a n.a
Tree Swallow 2/20 10/19
Violet-green 3/01 9/16
N. Rough-winged 4/09 9/24
Bank Swallow 5/10 9/18
Cliff Swallow 4/03 9/25
Barn Swallow 4/07 n.a. (prob mid-Oct)

The current miserably cold low gyring off the coast may have stopped the
northbound migration in its tracks.
