Just like to share the views of Comet Hyakutake from Prince George in central
BC. Awesome!! Each night it becomes a little brighter and the tail grows
longer. Comet Bennett in 1971 was the textbook large comet with a voluminous
tail whisking back from a huge diffuse coma. Comet West in 1976 was a dawn
stunner - incredibly bright with a short, sharp tail. Hyakutake in comparison
is much more ethereal with a well-defined bright bluish coma and a meandering
thinnish tail. There is a faint aurora tonight but Hyakutake has no problem
shining through it, including the basal part of the tail. Unfortunately, our
Moon will become a hindrance to good viewing from now on but the comet should
still be a wonderful apparition.
