Jim,

First of all, were they White-throated or Black-throated Magpie-Jays.
Almost certainly escapees in either case, but even less likely to have
straggled up from whatever their normal northern limit is (I don't have my
Howell guide handy) if White-throated.

There have been previous reports of San Blas Jays and other similarly
unlikely vagrants at the border.
