Tweeters,
I am preparing a feature about the Chestnut-collared Longspur found at
Montlake Fill in December for the April issue of _WOSNews_. Discussions on
Tweeters are the foundation for this story and I plan to use excerpts from
them in the newsletter.
This post is provided as a courtesy to those who posted remarks
concerning "Montlake Phil" over the past four months. High emotions
surrounded certain aspects of this story, creating a discourse that was
heated at times.
I intend to stir the coals only to distribute warmth, not to burn any
participant engaged in the debates. This story is about the longspur's
discovery, the perception of color in its plumage, the consideration of
capture as a means to establish its sex, and the response to the absence of
a timely broadcast message that the bird was caught and banded.
The lists of WOS members and Tweeters subscribers are not identical. A
considerable number of _WOSNews_ recipients know little of what happens on
the Internet. I would like to show them, in the words of Tor Ivor Bjoenness,
"a mighty fine example of how well a birder's mailinglist can function at
its best."
If you are concerned about fragments of your posts being reprinted to
help tell this story, please contact me directly. If you are not a WOS
member and would like to see the feature when it is published, please also
let me know.
Below is a list of 17 Tweeters and others from whose posts I have
selected excerpts.
