We wandered around the various prairies at Fort Lewis
on Saturday. The only place we saw Bluebirds was at
Weir Prairie near Rainier, WA. There we saw numerous
pairs working on the various bird boxes. We also had
great looks at: Western Meadowlarks, Savannah sparrows,
Chestnut-backed Chickadees, Red-tailed Hawks, and
Red Crossbills, to name a few. This area is covered in
great detail in Wahl and Paulson's "A Guide to Bird
Finding in Washington".
