Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday May 2. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

The male TUFTED DUCK continues to be seen on Meares Lake at Tillamook Bay.
It is hanging out with a group of RING-NECKED DUCKS.

A RUDDY TURNSTONE was at Yaquina Bay April 29. An OLDSQUAW was there the
next day. Two RUDDY TURNSTONES and two RED PHALAROPES were at Tillamook Bay
April 30. A WESTERN KINGBIRD and 185 WHIMBRELS were in the meadowlands east
of Tillamook April 27. Among a group of shorebirds at the marsh behind the
Tillamook Hospital that day were two SOLITARY SANDPIPERS. A group of 12 RED
KNOTS dropped down on Bayocean Beach that day.

Heavy coastal movements were reported along the West Coast following the
April 23 storm but Oregon birders must have missed most of it. The 53
LEACH'S STORM-PETRELS found dead on Clatsop Beach April 27 apparently were
part of that movement. The next Day 307 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and 13 RED
KNOTS were on Clatsop Beach and a RED KNOT and a RED PHALAROPE were at the
South Jetty of the Columbia River.

WESTERN TANAGERS, BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, and BULLOCK'S ORIOLES are now
moving through the Willamette Valley and should be regular in the next
several days. Two WESTERN KINGBIRDS were at Coon Point on Sauvie Island
April 27. An AVOCET, several YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS, four SEMIPALMATED
PLOVER, and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER were near Canby April 30. A SOLITARY,
several YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS, and three SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS were at
Baskett Slough NWR near Salem April 30. Eight BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS were at
Ankeny NWR south of Salem April 27. A SPOTTED SANDPIPER was there the day
before.

Four GRAY FLYCATCHERS and a LONG-EARED OWL were at Santiam Flats in the
Cascades at Detroit April 28. The flats area is a vagrant trap of sorts.

Two BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were along Highway 99W south of Monmouth April 28.
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were at the E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area north of
Corvallis, at Finley NWR, and at Fern Ridge Reservoir during the week. A
very unexpected SAGE SPARROW was briefly in the Fern Ridge area April 27.

A GREEN HERON was at Tumalo State Park near Bend and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK
was at Lower Bridge west of Terrebonne April 27. 14 MARBLED GODWITS, 110
IBIS, and 35 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were south of Klamath Falls April 27. An
OLDSQUAW was at Summer Lake April 24.

Landbird migrations picked up in southeastern Oregon during the last week
of April. Six YELLOW WARBLERS were at Fields April 30. A GREAT-TAILED
GRACKLE has been at Malheur NWR Headquarters for over a week. It is seen
most often at daylight then flys off to the west.

Thats it for this week.
