Despite lots of Calliope and Rufous Hummers, swallows, and many
Yellow-rumps (all Aud.), the main wave of insectivores has yet to make it
up the Methow. I had a single Orange- crn. Warbler on May 1, two Nashvilles
on May 3, and two Hammond's Flycatchers on Apr.30. Hardly any ducks on
Patterson Lake and nearby ponds; an osprey there on May 3. Most interesting
was a large brown "bird" that swooped down to a low branch. It was a HUGE
flying squirrel! Tawny above and cream-colored below, with a big fat tail.
A "life" mammal!
