Tim and Washington Audubon Office,

Last night I got a call from someone saying they were soliciting
emergency funds for Audubon's national wetlands lobbying program. All
well and good, but they asked for a credit card number: Red Alert!!!!

I told them I would send them a check for $25 (the $100 they were asking
for is just beyond my budget). The caller said that I would be getting a
"coded" mailer that I must send back immediately with my check. If I get
such a mailer, it will have to verified that the return address is an
authentic Audubon address. Who do I contact to verify donation requests
from Audubon? An Email address would be very useful.

This is poor strategy on the part of Audubon's national funding campaign,
if the call was indeed from Audubon and not some scam. Do not ask for
credit card numbers over the phone, please.

Thanks for any help and information,
