I am currently working on a project for the ABA and could use some
input for sites in Washington and Oregon. We are doing a series of site
guides for Bureau of Reclamation properties in western states. Having
never birded in Washington or Oregon myself, I would like to solicit
some input about the birding possibilites at Reclamation sites in these
states--whether the news is good or bad. Eventually, we need to select
a single site for Washington and a single site for Oregon, but I want
to get a short list to work from for now. I have listed below all the
Bureau of Reclamation sites I've been able to identify in both states
(I have tried to list them as you go west to east across the state for
ease of reference). If any of you can recommend any as excellent sites
or pan them as poor birding sites, I'd be interested in receiving your
comments.
The possible Washington sites are as follows: Keechelus, Bumping,
Clark Lake, Kachess, Cle Elum, Rimrock Lake, Qunicy Wildlife Recreation
Area, Babcock Ridge, Crab Creek, Desert Wildllife Recreation Area,
Potholes, Winchester, Gloyd Seeps Wildlife Recreation Area, Billy
Clapp, Conconully Reservoir, Conconully Lake, Spectacle, Goose Lake,
Warden, Lyle, Lake Linds, Wahluke Wildlife Rec. Area, Scooteney, Worth,
Mesa, Clark, Banks.
The possible Oregon sites are as follows: Henry Hagg, Agate,
Hyatt, Howard Prarie, Crescent, Crane Prarie, Wickiup, Clear, Wilson
Reservoir, Wilson Valley, Gerber, Haystack, Prineville, Ochoco, Beulah,
Warm Springs, Unity, Phillips, Thief Valley, Bully Creek, Lake Owyhee.
Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.
