This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for May 5, 1996.
For any questions regarding LCBAS call Mike Lilga at 946-8966.

Randy Hill of the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge reported a possible
CATTLE EGRET on the refuge on April 27. For an update, call Randy at
509-488-2668.

On April 29, Ellen Switsoff (sp?) noted a pair of OSPREY on a nest on the
Franklin county side opposite Groves Park. A check revealed that the nest
opposite Howard Amon Park was also occupied.

Bill LaFramboise observed an AMERICAN PIPIT and 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS near the
WPPSS plant on May 1. Steve Weiss saw a female GRAY PARTRIDGE along the
road just north of the 300 area on the same day.

On May 2, Nancy and Bill LaFramboise had 3 male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS at
their feeder. Also on that day I (Bob Woodley) found 2 WESTERN KINGBIRDS, a
WARBLING VIREO, a NASHVILLE WARBLER and a male WESTERN TANAGER in Groves Park.

Mike Denny reported 2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 2 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 10
AMERICAN AVOCETS, 14 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER, 1 MARBLED
GODWIT, 7 FORSTER'S TERNS and 118 CASPIAN TERNS on the Walla Walla Delta on
May 3. He also found a BONAPARTE'S GULL and a female RED-NECKED PHALAROPE
on the pond by the McNary National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters, a BURROWING
OWL at milepost 16 along Highway 240, and a pair of nesting LONG-EARED OWLS
at the rest stop near the Vernita Bridge.

Also on May 3, Nancy LaFramboise and I found 3 CLARK'S GREBES, 2 HOUSE
WRENS, 2 ORANGE-CROWNED and 1 "MYRTLE" YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and 2 LINCOLN'S
SPARROWS on or near Bateman Island.

Today, May 5, I had a female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD plus one other hummingbird
and 2 GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS in my yard.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
