Hi Tweets!
I use four-way feeders (plastic "flower" bottoms with perches) and this
seems to work fine. I do try to hang them in a shady place but full sun
is OK if you change the syrup often.
The recipe is 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. Do NOT boil the water to
dissolve the feeder. This causes a sugar concentration that is too strong
and will cause kidney problems for the hummers. I put my water in the
microwave for 3 to 4 minutes and then stir in the sugar. It dissolves fine.
One other thing to share: I do use red food coloring (I know this is
controversial) because it does help attract the birds originally.
However, once the feeder has an established hummer, I do not add the color.
Have fun!
