RE: Ancient Forest Rally in Olympia

Saturday, May 18th
Sylvester Park, Olympia
Noon

Your Presence is requested at our community's
RALLY TO PROTECT ANCIENT FORESTS & THREATENED WILDLIFE

A family event to tell Congress
NO MORE CLEARCUTTING
healthy trees, ancient forests
or endangered species habitat
under the guise of "Salvage."

Join us in an enjoyable and educational show of unity.

Show Congress where and what your environmental values are.

The event will have musicians (including Dana Lyons (tentative)), speakers
(including Bonnie Phillips and Ben White (tentative), jugglers, face paintings,
children's activities, marching stumps, educational materials, and a chance to
parade through the Capital of Washington!

Wear a costume - Plant or animal - Mask or full body! This is as much a
celebration of community values as it is anything else.

Come out and have a good time while you help make Washington the type of place
we want to continue to live in.

Sponsors include, but are not limited to:
Black Hills Audubon Society
Cheetwoot Wilderness Alliance
Sasquatch Group of the Sierra Club
Quilcene Ancient Forest Coalition
Northwest Ecosystem Alliance
Western Ancient Forest Campaign
Social Justice Committee of the Olympia Unitarian Universalist Congregation
Pacific Crest Biodiversity Project
Pilchuck Audubon Society

For more details call (360) 352-6521

If you can not make the rally, please participate by contacting Congress and the
President.

Our message is clear:

Repeal the Timber Salvage Rider.
Restore Environmental Laws.
Stop uncontrolled clearcutting on our public lands.
Jobs AND a healthy environment!

Come Out to the Woods and See for Yourself!

We are organizing trips to see these soon-to-be-destroyed areas.

Hike among ancient forest stands occupied by Marbled Murrelets and targeted for
clearcutting under the "Logging without Laws" salvage rider.

===========================
Sunday, May 12
Sunday, May 19
Saturday, May 25

Bring lunch, water, sturdy shoes, raingear, warm clothes and all the other
necessary equipment for safe hiking in the Pacific Northwest.

If you can't make it to Olympia to see these sites, contact our Rainier Audubon
Forest chair, Beverly Blinn, at 838-1730. Beverly can tell you about forests in
South King County that are being affected by the Salvage Rider.

Public lands are our lands. Public lands should be managed for long term values
-- not for greedy timber corporations wanting to make a short term profit at our
expense!

Please do your best to attend, contact your elected officials AND forward this
message to at least 10 other persons ASAP!! Thanks in advance.
