On the birding trip I spotted a green-backed heron (GBHE) gliding over
the river. Also, our group heard an American Bittern along the river. It
made a strange call that sounded like if you blew through a tube. Along
the river we were looking at the painted turtle and jumping fish when I
slipped into the water.

How do the bitterns make that unusual call?
How rare is it to see a green backed heron? Are they rare?

Yesterday on the field trip to MaryMoor Park in the top of a tree we saw
yellow warbler (YEWA). The tree was along the river across from the dog
walk area. On the breast of the bird it had orange dots or streaks. I had
a good view in the scope, which dean tells me is hard to do with
warblers. We saw many types of Warblers this day. It was fun looking for
the American Bittern along the river. We couldn't see it, but we heard
it. Dean kept walking and we stayed behind.

Do yellow warblers nest around here?

I thought the noise of the Bittern was interesting. Usually bird calls
are high pitch, but the Bittern's call was low. We were laying on the
dock and observing lilly pads. The water the clear and we could see the
bottom. Connor found this slimy stuff. It was cold and after five
minutes my hand started getting numb.

What kind of fish were jumping in the river?
Do turtles at MaryMoor eat fish?
