Last night I got a request for information about what to do about starlings
which are starting to nest in vents under eaves at a public school which is
undergoing reconstruction. The screens were taken off and it's not time in
the reconstruction to replace them yet.

Of course, people will say "kill them." But if this is the correct thing to
do, how? This is a public school, remember, and there are many legal and
environmental considerations. Besides, I personally don't like to advise
killing anything. So, can anyone help with this question?

(I had the same question a year ago about bats and the school janitorial
staff was going to poison them with gas! I advised them to wait until
October and then cover the vents; the baby bats would be out and adults and
babies would be migrating south again; however, starlings don't migrate from
here!)
