I have a question about how long rufous hummingbirds live and how they
remember. In March of 94 my husband installed a sheet of plexiglass in the
side of the sundeck to give me a better view of the birds in the backyard.
We had had a hummingbird feeder right above the sliding glass doors leading
out there for several years. I came home one morning to find I had murdered
a male rufous with this plexiglass. We immediately moved the feeder and
have never had another incident. We have been observing the last few days a
hummingbird(s) coming up to where this hummingbird feeder was over 2 years
ago. We have observed this every once in a while in previous years. Do
they remember where all the feeders are year after year? Could a human
remember this well? Does anyone know?
