We have begun working on our production of the 4th annual Shakespeare
Festival. The kids are performing "A Midsummer Night's Dream (on the wild
side)" in mid-June. Memorizing orginal text and rehearsing takes up most
of our time. This week was too hectic for a bird trip, so I will
share some of the kids' observations from this year. They have a spot on
the playground which they go to and sit for 20-30 minutes. We do this
when the playground is empty a couple times a month. We will get back
out with the birds next week.

Birds

They surround you all the time.
You may not know that they are there,
but they are.
They sing and dance,
they are called
Birds.

There is a flying bug.
I can feel the soft beating of a bee's wings.
I can hear the soft songs of the birds.
All of a sudden it is quite.
I can only hear the faint cars
and the falling leaves.
There are many bees and flies.
The leaves are falling in all directions.
A jumping spider is looking at me.
I can hear birds, but I can't see them.
Just a quiet day.

The sun glimmering through the dark autumn leaves.
The moon barely visible by the naked eye.
Tall grasses and hollow trees roam this wetlands.
Small singers fly for pleasure,
crows fly at the top of the tallest trees.
Cut down trees, grow bark up.
But some old ones only age and do not grow.
Noises I here, not wind, not leaves,
but something toxic like.
Which does not give natural beauty or feel.

I see a squirrel prancing along the open ground carefully not to make a
sound for I may be a predator. He scrambles up a tree in search of
food.
