My trip to Michigan (with an extension to Ontario) May 5/5-12 was
eminently successful from a variety of angles including birding of
course. Highlights included surviving seven days without a latte,
three lifers (Prothonotary, Cape May and Bay-breasted warblers), 83
species at Pt. Pelee on 5/10 [including 17 warblers (listed below)
and Baltimore, Bullocks and Orchard orioles], and a new state bird
(Chimney Swift) for Michigan noted while attending a funeral. My
only regret was missing a Kirtlands which passed through Pelee the
same day as I. The weather in the Mideast reminded me why most of us
left the old country long ago -- trees were barely budding and there
were snow flurries at Grand Rapids on 5/12!
