Hi, Tweeters and Auduboners!

THIS IS A REQUEST FOR A 350-WORD COLUMN.

I am the editor of our Audubon chapter's newsletter. We have a bird
sightings column. Two months ago one of our members called to say that she
had been feeding Am. Kestrels chicken livers during the harshest part of
winter. The person who writes the bird column called our bird rehabber who
said that one should NEVER do so and she would write a column about why not.
Well, that column has never materialized. Meanwhile, I attended the WA/ID
combined Audubon Council meeting in Pullman and Moscow a couple of weeks ago
and met Dr. Eric Stauber. He gave a slide presentation and brought some
raptors that were unreleasable (beautiful! --- I got to be a human perch for
a kestrel). Anyway, I learned that one reason people shouldn't feed raptors
just one part of an animal is that they need the whole thing to develop
healthy feathers and bodies. What I'd really like to have is a column (about
350 words) about why not to feed raptors chicken livers (is there something
you CAN feed them during a harsh winter?). Is there some kind soul out there
willing to do that for our chapter?

Thanks!
