Yesterday around 4 P.M. I was at Gingko Petrified Forest State Park and was
stumped by a flycatcher. I found it in the trees across from the visitor
center, I guess it was the picnic area. I never heard it utter a sound but
got long looks at it close up. It struck me as very small- about five
inches. Build was very slim. Overall it was gray in color (lighter below,
darker above)- I saw no hint of yellowish or olive color, though bright
east-of-the- Cascades light may have affected my perception (this is the
first time in a long while I've found myself wanting the rain to stop).
There was a noticeable partial(I think)eye ring. Breast just below the
throat was darker, possibly a "vest". Lower mandible appeared yellow but
dark near the tip. My views were always in profile, so I can't describe tail
markings at all.
