If any members of OFO are on tweeters that saw this phenomenon they
probably could help reinforce this statement. About 90 % of the
swifts were Vauk's, yet there were well over 100 Black Swifts that I
saw. THere were reports by other people as well. Perhaps a better
explaintion would help quell some questions. The church (which I'm
sure is torn down by now) had a very wide chimney and thus it was
believed that the swifts especially the black swifts would fly clear
through the length of the chimney and roost on the perches remaining
from the worn out church interior. No Brian, I agree with you, in my
references Black swifts nest on ledges, cliffs or caves.
