GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS made several appearances on the
Palouse last Sunday, May 12. John and Marty Hirth had a single bird at
the feeder near Viola, Idaho. Another single bird was in Moscow and the
third single bird was at my feeder on Paradise Ridge, 5 miles south of
Moscow.
.
Three LEWIS' WOODPECKERS were seen last Saturday, May 11. The
Hirth's report two birds near milepost 353 along US 95 about 8 miles
north of Moscow. Another bird has been residing just west of Troy,
Idaho along Wallen Road. Head east from Moscow on ID 8 and near
milepost 11 turn left (north) onto Wallen Road and immediately go under
the railroad trestle. In a mile, Wallen makes a sharp 90 degree left
turn. Watch for the bird from here down to the grey house on the right
side of the road. Idaho DeLorme p. 58, C1.

Dale Goble found 2 VIRGINIA RAIL at their perennial location at Moose
Creek Reservoir near Bovill, Idaho in northeastern Latah County on
Saturday, May 11. About 0.5 mile west of Bovill, along ID 8, turn north
onto FS 381. It's marked very well on the highway. It's about a mile
back to the reservoir. Idaho DeLorme p. 58, B3.
.
Yesterday, May 16, my wife and I saw a single SHORT-EARED OWL
hunting a field near milepost 253.3 along US 95, just south of the Prairie
Ag Center just south of Cottonwood, Idaho. Idaho DeLorme p. 54, BC-3.
