This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for May 18,
1996. For any questions regarding LCBAS call Mike Lilga at 946-8966.

On the morning of May 13, Ruth Fischer observed a CHIPPING SPARROW in her yard.

And on that same morning, Nancy LaFramboise discovered a ROSS' GOOSE in with
Canada Geese near the Burbank grain elevators on the southwest side of the
Snake River Bridge.

Also on May 13, there were 2 or 3 male WESTERN TANAGERS and 2 WILSON'S
WARBLERS in Grove's Park (Richland).

On May 14, Bill LaFramboise found 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES on the Washington
Public Power Supply System's sewage pond, while 2 days later, both WILSON'S
AND RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were there.

Also on May 14, I (Bob Woodley) was surprised by a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE in
W.E. Johnson Park along the Yakima River, near Duportail Street and a
WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE, a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER, and 2 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS
were normal for the date.

During the period May 12-16, 1 to 3 VAUX'S SWIFTS have been seen over Groves
Park.

On May 16, 48 "Western" type grebes of which at least 2 were CLARK'S GREBES
were seen in Richland from the Yakima Delta to Nelson Island (seen from
Groves Park).

A second location of WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS in Benton county was discovered
by Dennis Rockwell on May 17. They were found on the east end of Les Blair
Road off the south end of Finley Road. See DeLorme Atlas page 39, D-8. A
LARK SPARROW was also seen there.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
