Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Wednesday May 22. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

The bright male COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD continues to come to a Klamath Falls
feeder. If interested in seeing the bird contact Kevin Spencer at
707-826-0127.

The CATTLE EGRET was seen again May 16 along Highway 101 north of Florence.
It is found in a pasture on the west side of the highway across from the C
and M Stables near Lilly Lake.

A sickly adult LONG-TAILED JAEGER was observed in the grass at the edge of
Yaquina Bay behind the Marine Science Center during the week-end. A
LONG-BILLED CURLEW, two RED KNOTS, and 60 WHIMBREL were in the Tillamook
area May 19. A CHIPPING SPARROW was on the Bayocean Peninsula that day.

On May 15 an injured BLACK SWIFT was picked up at 172d and Glisan Streets
in northeast Portland and brought to the Portland Audubon Care Center. A
well marked BLACK-THROATED SPARROW was in the Lloyd Center area of
northeast Portland May 17. A very noisy NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was in the
neighborhood of northeast 42d and Alberta Streets in Portland May 19. It
may still be around.

A WHIMBREL was near Canby May 18. YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were reported
during the week from the Mollala Sewage Ponds, Baskett Slough Refuge near
Salem, and from the E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area north of Corvallis.

RED-NECKED PHALAROPES are still being reported from many parts of the state
with RED PHALAROPES seen with them at Fern Ridge Reservoir near Eugene, at
Diamond Lake in the high Cascades, at Summer Lake Wildlife Area, and near
the P Ranch in Malheur Refuge. Four were seen in the Klamath Basin at the
Miller Island Wildlife Area and east of Worden May 17. Some of these
reporters noted all three phalarope species together.

A bright SABINE'S GULL was working the east side of Fern Ridge Reservoir
over the week-end. The BLACK TERNS were conspicuous along the east side
also.

A FORSTER'S TERN was at the mouth of the Deschutes River May 18. That day a
COMMON and a BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were on the Wasco Sewage Ponds and an early
COMMON NIGHTHAWK was over Rock Creek Reservoir in Wasco County. A singing
GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was at the junction of Crites Lane and Monkland
(Lavender) Road east of Moro May 18.

Very heavy migratory movements have been reported from the Klamath Basin
and southeastern Oregon during the week. A CALIFORNIA TOWHEE was in Moore
Park in Klamath Falls and YELLOW RAILS and FLAMMULATED OWLS were along
Westside Road west of Fort Klamath May 18.

The GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE continues to be seen at Malheur Refuge
Headquarters. A male RUFOUS and two male BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRDS were at
Fields May 19. CLARK'S GREBES are regularly noted at the Narrows. BURROWING
OWLS were reported from along Highway 205 north of the Narrows and along
the Narrow-Princeton Road east of Malheur Headquarters. A TRICOLORED
BLACKBIRD was reported from near the Hines Sewage Ponds area May 19.

Thats it for this week.
