Hi All,
I Spent Monday, May 27 afternoon, at Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic
National Park. There were numerous grey jays all along the main road and
quite a few begging for scraps from the tourists near the lodge. Also near
the lodge were juncos, yellow-rumped (Audabon's) warblers, siskins, and
red crossbills.
Along the Hurricane Hill Trail, were singing Townsend's solitaires,
and varied thrushes. Besides a few ravens playing in the air currents, the
only other birds of interest were a pair of rock wrens about a quarter of
a mile from the trailhead. They were feeding fairly close to the
trail among rock slides and scree, moving rapidly. I saw them only on the
way out, not on the way back. I believe this is an unusual location for the
species in WA state.
Other than that, the scenery was beautiful and the alpine flowers have
begun blooming.
