Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Alert. This recording
was made Thursday May 30. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

A female BLACK-CHINNED SPARROW was reported May 25 from Glass Butte, along
Highway 20 in Lake County.

A bright male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was at the Toketee Ranger Station in
the Cascades east of Roseburg May 28. A PLAIN TITMOUSE was reported from
the end of Royal Avenue on the east side of Fern Ridge Reservoir May 24.
Two BLACK SWIFTS flew over Mountaindale, west of North Plains May 22.

The EMPEROR GOOSE was seen again over the week-end at Lewis and Clark State
Park on the Sandy River. It was across the river from the boat ramp. A
MOCKINGBIRD was seen May 26 near the Scappoose Airport, and a
BLACK-THROATED SPARROW was reported from Pittock Mansion in Portland's West
Hills May 25.

Territorial TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES were noted in two different areas of
western Washington County May 25. That day a family of SHOVELERS was seen
on a farm pond near Forest Grove.

On May 24 a COMMON REDPOLL was seen among a large flock of AMERICAN
GOLDFINCHES near Dallas in Polk County. Two BANK SWALLOWS and a BLACK TERN
were at Creswell Pond south of Eugene May 24. Another BANK SWALLOW was
reported from southeast Portland.

A colony of up to 87 pairs of TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS were observed feeding
young May 25 at Barnes Butte Lake north of Prineville. Good numbers of
BREWER'S, YELLOW-HEADED, and RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS also nest about the
lake.

Good numbers of migrant birds were still passing through southeast Oregon
over the Memorial Day Week-end. At Malheur Refuge Headquarters a male and a
female BLACKPOLL WARBLER were seen. A TENNESSEE WARBLER was there May 27. A
CATBIRD was seen May 25, and a male BROAD-TAILED HUMMINGBIRD was there May
26. At least two PLUMBEUS SOLITARY VIREOS and a probable EASTERN WARBLING
VIREO were also reported.

Two WHIMBRELS were seen all week-end along Highway 205 north of Wrights
Point. A BLACK SWIFT was at Diamond May 22, and a LEAST FLYCATCHER was at
Roaring Springs in the Catlow Valley May 24. A flock of over 50 LESSER
GOLDFINCHES were at Frenchglen and at Page Springs Campground. At least
three BLACK-BACKED LESSER GOLDFINCHES were seen among the flocks.

Single GREAT WHITE HERONS were reported recently from both Malheur Refuge
and from the Lower Klamath Refuge. Both (or it) was reported to have a
yellow bill and yellow legs, and were larger than nearby Great Egrets.
